Look, either you like world-ending disaster movies or you don't. Compared to Day After Tomorrow or 2012, Greenland is something of a minor masterpiece. It's not quite These Final Hours in terms of its existential, emotional depth, but sometimes it gets close, and that's saying something. This movie is about the people, not the disaster. If you wanted to see a non-stop action thrill ride with tons of special effects and Gerard Butler kicking butt, then you're in the wrong place. Most of this movie deals with Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and their son trying to find each other after they get separated by the masses of people trying to find shelter. The last third is more about the disaster stuff. While the character development isn't on par with all-time great movies, Greenland is much more careful and caring with its characters than most b-movies, which, at least in my opinion, elevates it above most disaster films. Clearly a step above Geostorm, the Poseidon Adventure, Deep Impact, The Core, and Armageddon, but probably a tiny step back from The Impossible and These Final Hours. If Greenland had ended about one minute earlier, I think it would be an all time great of the genre. Alas, this is a big-bidget (though, not as big as you might expect), Hollywood film that doesn't have the balls to leave the characters' fate up to the audience. It's a shame. Still, I'll give it 4/5 stars for what it is: a really good family-apocalypse drama with some decent action elements throughout. Doesn't do any of it spectacularly, but it doesn't do any of it poorly either.

Compared to other new movies available to buy at the moment, this movie is better than many of them.
  • Just because you’ve seen this movie before, doesn’t mean it’s bad.

If you’re looking for the classic end of the world movie with a decent amount of suspense and pretty good CG.. You’ll enjoy this movie.

I wouldn’t hesitate to rent this again. The story was well presented and not too out of this world. Good acting as well.

I was expecting something along the lines of Armageddon, 2012, San Andreas, Independence Day type of movie. This was not that. 90 percent of the movie is the family prepping for the comet. And they tell you it’s hit places but you don’t see it. There’s zero action to this movie. Just a lot of crying.
