  • Not bad but major plot holes

The movie seems like an updated or twist on the movie Traffic but definitely not as good. It’s generally entertaining but major plot holes. First about the new drug. Safety data on a few mouse models is just that, mouse data. A drug going through Phase 3 pivotal trials should already have a ton of human safety data that some guy in a lab with a few mice won’t statistically alter the conclusion. The FDA isn’t stupid. The second plot line with the sting operation actually seems very close or actually entrapment, as a DEA agent is trying to link a buyer and a seller of narcotics. Which I’m pretty sure never would have happened if the DEA wasn’t trying to push the transaction through which is the definition of entrapment. The final stupid plot hole was some mom whose son was victim of a drug crime was seeking revenge on the drug kingpin. Towards the end the authorities cannot locate this kingpin, but somehow this suburban mom does and takes him out. Really?
  • A movie about phone calls🤣🤣🤣

Ok. To be fair, I enjoyed the film, though the sort off open ending did not sit too well with me. I think MY problem was that I got distracted early on in the movie by ALL the telephone calls the entire cast kept receiving through the entire movie. It seems that everyone received several in this film. I mean, I started expecting the extras to receive one as well. They were so many that I can safely say that in the span of two hours they received way more calls than I do in a month! Incredible! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Despite a topical hot point, the writing is not strong enough to weave the three stories together deftly enough to make a great movie.

    Not even a worthwhile effort.

Rented Crisis last night off a strong recommendation from a girlfriend of mine, since we both loved Arbitrage; Nicholas Jarecki’s first feature length film, and I must say, I loved Crisis as much as Arbitrage! Maybe more! I had no idea Crisis even came out! I was so surprised and excited when she told me and I couldn’t wait to watch it! Converging storylines, complex characters, incredible acting/directing... showing the insatiable greed of big pharmaceutical companies... It really makes you think... Overall a great thriller. Highly recommend :)

So many amazing performances (yes, including the guy who got cancelled) combined with a tight script make this an intelligent and thoughtful thriller that reminds me of the 70s-90s peak of the genre. Just really well done!
  • Great cast, locations, and story add up to a solid movie

Director Jarecki manages to keep many plates spinning as he weaves his tale about the “crisis” of the opioid trade, addiction, and the greed of big pharma. Great performances all around. Hard to go wrong with Hammer, Oldman, Lillly, Rodriguez, Kinnear on the screen. Thought Lily Depp put in a haunting portrayal as a young woman lost in her addiction. What a welcome change to see a thriller where the drug smuggling is taking place on the northern border with French-Canadian villains! Cinematography, Detroit and Montreal locations , music all add to the satisfying experience. See it.

Awesome performances! Especially enjoyed Armie’s portrayal of a man not only fighting the war on opioids as a cop, but fighting to save a loved ones life from opioids! Loved how the three stories merged! Very insightful view into the world of opioids!
