Description

Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic...a creature of reason. While in Istanbul, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. At first, she doubts that he is real and she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. But the Djinn pleads his case, and eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both!

Don’t recommend, it’s long and gets confusing. Felt like it was all over the place.

The preview looked great, but it turned out to be a star-studded and graphically beautiful boredom. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for it.
  • The best movie currently available anywhere!

This was a good movie. I rented and watched twice. Good love story, well told.
  • Strong first hour, then falls apart

This is one of those rare movies that feels like it could have used an additional hour of runtime. There’s a lot of beautiful world-building and storytelling in the first hour then it feels as if they ran out of budget or time. The expansive narrative becomes full of disjointed cuts, fade-to-black scene transitions, and rushed story. It really could have been great, and it’s worth a $3 rental, but it’s ultimately a disappointment.
