Description

Months after saying goodbye to sentient synth Mia (Gemma Chan, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and her family, the Hawkinses search for some semblance of normalcy. Laura (Katherine Parkinson, The IT Crowd) and Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill, Mr. Selfridge) attend marriage counseling, even as they grow concerned over their daughter’s (Pixie Davies, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) strange behavior. But when Niska (Emily Berrington, 24: Live Another Day) arrives at their home unannounced, the family is pulled back into the dangerous lives of the synths.

The ideas are as old as "Metropolis," and the storytelling is too slow and quiet. Some of the subplots are drawn-out soap opera hack work. For all that, it's smart for tv, and it's sci-fi for grownups, and the acting is generally really good. I'm midway into season 2 and they're maintaining just enough suspense to keep me watching.

"Humans" is extremely well written and the acting is top notch. The production qualities are flawless, but the insightful way it exposes basic human programming is the key feature. The story goes past racism, sexism, and all the other "isms" straight to the core of our human dysfunction - xenophobia. This fear of the unknown other keeps us always on the verge of conflict, never seeming to completely accept anyone not from our tribe. That coupled with our individualism and hierarchical striving prevent us from living in a world where cooperation could have, by now had us flying to the stars. If we didn't have the capacity to love and forgive, we would be long gone, and maybe Bonobos would be the dominant Mammal on the planet.

I watch most of season 1. Thrilled they got a second season! 3rd too hopefully. Love the concept, it will be reality soon. Probably not in my life, but, 20-25 years.... Gonna happen.

Move over Westworld, this is the ultimate robot show! I feel like I waited 3 yrs between the first and this season but I’m glad it’s finally here. Anything with Gemma Chan will always get thumbs up from me :)
  • The below is not a "review"

Hi. I really liked the first season but have to say I haven't watched the first episode of the second. That said, I would like to counterbalance the below which is also not a review but more political blather. If you are offended you have the absolute right not to watch. However you do not have the right to give a low rating to a show that you haven't watched. You don't like lesbian kisses turn it off and spend your money elsewhere. I would ask why you feel so compelled to put out false data about liberals and the media? Probably like that kiss a bit more then you want to admit to yourself wink wink (like most of the repressed right wingers who end up soliciting for gay sex in public bathrooms) but that's neither here nor there. You don't like it don't watch but don't say it's a review when it is not, don't put out false numbers like 1%, and really why do you care what other people watch? I'm sure Kurt Cameron has a great show that won't offend your very sensitive morals. I mean those characters kissing are very caring unlike a lot of violent tv that's on all the channels yes love is the problem. Jeez
  • One of the Most Underrated Shows on TV!

This show is fantastically well written and well acted. Despite being a sci-fi show about robots in doesn't need to rely on overblown CGI to deliver some serious drama. I hope 2.0 will carry on the brilliance of the first season. Oh and to the first reviewer…really??? What year is this buddy? You probably didn’t like I Love Lucy either because it featured an interracial couple...
