Description

For 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn't always helpful in East Texas where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. His father is struggling as a high school football coach and as father to a boy he doesn’t understand. Sheldon's mother fiercely protects and nurtures her son who just doesn't fit in. Sheldon’s older brother does the best he can in high school, but he’s also in the same classes with Sheldon. Finally, there’s Sheldon’s twin sister who remains the one person who can reliably tell Sheldon the truth. For 10 years on The Big Bang Theory, audiences have come to know the iconic, eccentric and extraordinary Sheldon Cooper. Now meet him as he embarks on his innocent, awkward journey toward the man he will become.

I think this show is hilarious! The little Sheldon acts just like the grown Sheldon and it makes it seem so realistic. The Big Bang Theory is a great show also so it’s no surprise about this show. 🤙

This show is amazing! Sheldon’s childhood mirrors so much of mine as an INTJ child. Granted, he is smarter than me at math but the show captures a lot of the emotions and idealism towards justice that I had experienced when I was younger.
  • Comedy and drama both...

This is more than simple comedy; there is a growing up lesson embedded in each episode, which makes it charming as well as funny. For a kid growing up different, that seems like a decent approach to telling the story. Wondering if we will see some of the negative anecdotes about Sheldon’s father that we learned in TBBT.

I waited until season one was over to review because, to be fair, every show finds itself during that first year. Young Sheldon is charming. The reviews here that dismiss it, I feel, miss the boat. One reviewer feels the writers insult Jesus. Spend time with Mary, and you’ll see a mom showing not only a genuine belief but also love: Love and acceptance of her “different” child even if he rejects her beliefs alongside a devotion to continue to pray for him. I’m from a Texas Christian family myself and can tell you that her way of expressing her beliefs are much more like Jesus than most I was witness to growing up in the South. (“Turn or burn”.) Those who wanted a fully fleshed Sheldon Cooper don’t remember their own journey to becoming who they are now - the little things that set us on the paths that ultimately made us who we are. That’s what we get to see. It’s exquisite, to use Iain Armitage’s word of the day from Sesame Street. And finally to those who simply critique Iain, Wow. In Sheldon Cooper, across two shows, we have two of the finest actors bringing one of the most complicated characters written to life. That one of these actors is 11 years old and does this flawlessly is remarkable. Catch interviews of this precocious young man and then judge again how much skill it takes to reign in that much life and 11-year old-boy ness to become Sheldon Cooper. Add to the fact that Iain has a heart bigger than most adults’ put together, and we have the perfect young man to bring Sheldon’s “origin story” to the screen. Sheldon as we’ve grown to know him isn’t an aloof robot, he’s peculiar because his massive intelligence created a separation between him and the people around him. He compensated in all these wonderfully inventive ways that let him thrive in the world and become a leading theoretical physicist. Watching how he managed that is heartwarming, yes, but pretty darn funny week in, week out. The whole crew on this is creating excellent comedic television. I thank them for their hard work. And encourage anyone who hasn’t given it a fair chance to do so. Many thanks to the ensemble cast, Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, Jim Parsons, and the writers for bringing this to us each week. Can’t wait for Season 2.

This show bashes Christians like me and I hate that. Aside from that this show is sappy. If this is a spin-off of the Big Bang theory, then I fail to see resemblance cause it feels like a syrupy drama. I say stick to older sitcoms, ones that were made back when people did not think sex and blasphemy was funny. Yes he had a rough childhood but people don’t think about that. They’re pretty much cheated by the marketing pigs at CBS into thinking it’s enjoyable for bbt fans (I’m sure it is for most) and Sheldon is a total BUTT
