Description

It was the defining moment of the 20th Century — the scientific, technological, military, and political gamble of the world's first atomic attack. This drama-documentary shows what it is like to live through a nuclear explosion, millisecond by millisecond. The action takes viewers into the room where the crucial political decisions are made, on board the Enola Gay on her fateful voyage, inside the bomb as it explodes, and on the streets of Hiroshima when disaster strikes. Parallel storylines interweave, unfolding the action from both US and Japanese perspectives, and revealing the tensions and conflicts in the actions and minds of people who were making history. Special effects recreate the reality of the mission, and archive film replays the horrific aftermath.

But remember, it was done after the Japanese military cowardly attacked our naval base at Pearl Harbor. And it was done after the Japanese military refused to surrender after repeated warnings. Yes, it's sad to think about the innocent citizens that were killed, but how many innocents did the Japanese military kill during thier invasions of Pacific countries? They were the aggressor, and wouldn't have thought twice about slaughtering our citizens if they had invaded the USA.

I already saw some documentaries about the nuclear bomb and Hiroshima. This is a very good one because it shows more than the technical and political part, it shows the dramatization of the suffering of the people in hiroshima, which was very well done. I recommend it!

Touching, dis-heartening, sad, and moving. Having lived in Japan for two years in the mid-80s and developing deep and lasting friendships with so many, I was deeply touched by these two episodes. My father served in the US military, and when he and mother visited me there, they too fell in love with the Japanese people. My father wept in both Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. I am well aware of the horror that the Japanese military inflicted upon the world, including Pearl Harbor and China. But as usual, the crimes and terror of war are committed by the governments and militaries. Hunger for power and dominiation, lives of innocent civilians are consumed by hate and arrogance. Why haven't we learned!?!? "Hiroshima" should be included in every history lesson taught in the United States and through out the world.
  • Too much "dramatic recreation"

It's an important topic but, sadly, it's couched in bad "dramatic re-enactments" for entertainment. The history of this event deserves better. By purchasing 'docu-dramas' you only encourage more of this drivel so, to my eyes, it's best to move past this.

I really enjoyed this documentary and feel that it really shed a light to the magnitude of the Atom Bombs used on Japan.
  • It's remarkable how the first reviewer fails to grasp the obvious

Of course it's barbaric. This is why this documentary was made. So a new generation can learn that this event must never be repeated.
