A very good mini series. Kind of hard to understand what the characters are saying.
  • Strongly recommended for history buffs and Western fans alike

A historically accurate, exciting depiction of the famous feud between the two families. Although situated in Kentucky and West Virginia, the series feels like a Western. The subject matter--a senseless private war based on honor and revenge--connects well, I think, with modern-day ethnic and religious conflict and how belligerent parties cloak their agendas with religious language and often end up unleashing forces they can't control. Finally, the acting--starting with Costner and Paxton--is superb.
  • Costner strikes again

Kevin Costner has found himself once again in this epic depiction of the feud between the Hatfields and McCoys. He portrays Devil Anse with conviction, and shows the multifaceted and convoluted aspects of the feud. Wonderful story lines and entertaining throughout.
  • Overblown

Overblown, aimless. Starts out interesting as various members of both clans try to make peace, but becomes a dreary, formless dirge of one killing after another without any real story development and precious little development of character.
