I am trying to figure out what justifies anyone giving this season low ratings. It was incredible. I watched the entire series over a few weeks and can honesly say I have never seen a show that has made me question so many things. My own ethics, morales, philosophy, emotions pertaining to love and hate... all of it questioned because of this show. Every season was gripping and had me on the edge of my seat. Yes there were a few weak episodes over the course of 8 seasons but, for the most part, the writing and acting was top notch. Michael C Hall has become one of my favorite actors because of his portrayal of Dexter. What a show! Definitely not anything like I thought it was going to be and I cannot wait to watch the entire series again and again!
  • Godawful way to end a great run

As a professional writer, I had plotted out at least 6 ways to end the show. The finale, while it works, is underwhelming. It could pass as a decent book ending, but for a premium television show, it was probably one of the worst in television history. None of the endings I imagined came to fruition and ultimately it felt like a slap in the face to many faithful fans. The killing of LaGuerta at the end of the Season before it was a great beginning to the roller coaster ending that Season 8 could have been. Ultimately very disappointed. Call me to help with your script next time, I have 9 books on the Google Play Store.

Ok the series as a whole was great. I watched the whole thing from season one to season eight for the first time in the course of 2 weeks. It is an amazing show and kept me on the edge of my seat at first, until season 7. After that it was kinda iffy and the plot became very repetitive with Dexter making the same mistakes he made in the start of the series. But SEASON 8 is horrible and should be erased. The finale is the worst episode of the series and one of the worst in the history of finales.
  • Not too bad but not great either. Love the price drop.

Still wanna buy for my digital collection though. Must see it through to the end I guess. Hope it stays 14.99 a little longer.
  • disappointed long time fan (he’s too human)

i’ve yet to watch the finale, but i’m only a couple of episodes away from it and i think they made dexter way too human in this season. it’s like the writers forgot he was suppose to be a psychopath. it’s good in theory i guess, but it doesn’t match up to his character's or the show's intended purpose in my opinion. everything that happens is just way too complicated and weird for it to ever be believable, too. i get that it’s fiction and that the whole idea of it is outlandish in the first place, but the stuff in this season still just seems way too improbable for me to take it seriously. more so than the other seasons. he has close relationships with like 3 other serial killers within the same year. it felt as though they were grasping at straws to make cliff hanger after cliff hanger and plot twist after plot twist. they do introduce one of my favorite characters though, a psychopath analyst. i’d say she’s worth the watch.

    * Side note * All the people saying they hated the ending only hate it because it feels like you got kicked in the balls. And that is the whole point you morons. It does not matter to the writers that you hated or loved it. They got an emotional response out of you wether it was filling your little dull hearts with joy or making you hate yourself for what you just saw, they've done their job (so all of you plot and character development experts can keep your day jobs). With that being said phenomenal ending. Dexter is ultimately responsible for Deb's death and therefor stays away from the rest of his loved ones so that he does not end up "destroying" their lifes. The goodbye between Dexter and Deb is heart wrenching. Watch it.

I don't get the lumberjack thing but I'm feeling optimistic show time says there might be season 9 so think of the lumberjack as a great disguise.
  • Dexter's Final and Sad Ending

I have loved Dexter ever since i have started watching on Netflix. I really liked the last season even though it definitely was a step down from the first 6. The last two seasons really showed though that the show was declining in quality. The ending (which people bashed constantly-For example, the AV Club gave it an F and Michael C Hall-He plays Dexter said he didn't even watch the finale), I personally thought was clever and fitting for a complex character such as Dexter. I encourage you to watch this series, but most people will hate the ending. But please do not do a spinoff since a show needs to end forever with a series finale.
  • It's really not bad!

Okay, so it may not be the best season if Dexter but it's not that bad. The only reasons I'm only giving it four stars is because of the season finale. Eight years of Dexter and that's how they decide to end it. I was a little disappointed. But the season finale did have some excitement. For example when he killed Oliver Saxxon with a pen. But other than the season finale I have no complaints with the final season of dexter and I feel it was actually one of the better seasons.
