At our house we often watch this show. Even after seeing the episodes several times, we still love them. Being fans of the original Inspector Morse show, and Inspector Lewis as well, this show is such a treat, getting to look into the past of Endeavour Morse. Love it! Really hope to see season three made available soon please!!!

Endeavour is of course the unspoken first name of Inspector Morse who always insisted on being called “just Morse.” Thus it is a prequel to both Inspector Morse and Inspector Lewis. It has the same look and feel and craftsmanship as its predecessors which is a high recommendation. The soundtracks are almost always underscored with classical or operatic masterpieces. Great stories. Great character development. And, as others have noted, the beautiful setting of Oxford. BUT they haven’t really shown us yet why Morse became so lonely, curmudgeonly, and despondent. AND they have not shown us how he became a Wagnerian…. (in his musical taste). Hopefully, that bodes well for a long future for this series.

Great story line and writing. Very authentic in its 1960's setting and Shaun Evans does a great job!!

If you are a fan of the original Inspector Morse series, then this show is a real gem on several levels. Shaun Evans is quite good and carries the show, but his ensemble cast of Roger Allam, Anton Lesser and others, makes it complete. Add the Oxford setting and Barrington Phelong’s music - much of it from the original series - and the overall effect is stunning. I hope Masterpiece keeps this one going a long, long time.
