“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

One time watch
Watch it once to say you did, or to understand the events. I wouldn’t buy it, or invest more than a single viewing.
Harsh Reality Depicted (Excellent)
As one reviewer commented on lack of dialogue, I would like to counter politely. The lack of dialogue intensified the dismal state of affairs on the beachfront and events surrounding every soldiers’ utter fear and feeling of desolation. In this film, the viewer can almost feel every tense moment from the soldiers’ point of view, imho. As a veteran myself, I have to agree that this is truly as close as it comes to the reality of war and its negative impacts on a human being; both physically and psychologically. 10/10 in my humble opinion, and prayers to all the relatives of those who lost loved ones during this tragic wartime event. Great film.

Many people go into war movies expecting epic battles, blood and guts, etc. However, read a memoir of a combat veteran abd often you'll hear about the psychological effects of war. The waiting, the anxiety, the uncertainty. This beautifully shot film explored this masterfully. This serves as a litmus test for true film fans.
Watched because Harry Styles was in it, Chris Nolan did not disappoint
